If I place solar panels side by side?

will the energy from the sun pass through them when they are touching? I have solar panels and they have red and black wires on them. Do the wires have to touch in order for the energy to pass through them?

The energy from the sun should not pass through a solar panel regardless of its orientation with respect to another nearby panel. Wires DO have to touch in order for energy to pass energy through them.

If you are serious about installing solar panels, please get some local help.

You would connect red-to-red, blacik-to-black to maintain voltage, but double the current. You would then connect the red bundle to the (+) side of the load, and the black bundle to the (-) side.

To get twice the voltage, but no extra current, you would connect the red of one panel to the black of the other, then use the red and black wires that are dangling free to connect to the load.

Most professional installations have the panels right up against each other. However, a pro installing big panels will also leave a large airspace underneath the panels for cooling, as panels are a little more efficient at cooler temperatures.
