no, they would then charge us for the sun like water and everything else. but seriously solar is so efficient they should mandate new homes to be grid free.
Probably not becuase the energy to obtain the raw materials (silica, gallium, and other exotic elements), transport them, and manufacture the products will take lots of petroleum.
