Just a thought – I want to keep my potted garden going in the winter. We don’t have the means to go full-solar. Is it possible to wire a grow-lite to keep on 24/7 and hook it into a small set of solar panels on the roof, with perhaps a battery to store excess daytime sun for the nighttime?
I know it’s makes for expensive plants, but there’s herbs and veggies that get pretty expensive around here in the winter.

I was just looking at solar panel kits on ebay yesterday. That should be do-able. But run the light only for 12 hours on a timer. Give your 12 volt battery time to recharge for 8-10 hours when the sun is out and then you can run the light at night. Plants need the darkness too it allows the leaves to breathe. Your light will tricking them into thinking night is day cause you will be charging the battery during the day. Here is the link to the solar panel kit search on ebay:
